Lindsay
Lohan Opens Up
by Sarah Hall, Nov 22, 2004, 3:40 PM PT, E! Online
It's tiring being Lindsay Lohan.
In a new magazine interview, the teen queen opened up about the
reason behind her five-day hospitalization last month--she was
plain exhausted.
"I was overtired and working myself to death," Lohan,
18, tells Jane magazine. "When you're young, you think you
can just keep going and going."
Lohan was working on the set of her upcoming film, Herbie: Fully
Loaded, and recording her debut album, Speak, when she began
feeling ill and retreated to the Los Angeles pad of then
boyfriend, Wilmer Valderrama.
Apparently, the affection of her significant other was not enough
to get the Mean Girls star out of her health funk.
"He tried to take care of me, and I'm screaming in the
bedroom," Lohan tells Jane. (Shockingly, the duo split a
scant few weeks later.)
Lohan then sought the advice of her doctor, who discovered she
was running a 103-degree fever and packed her off to Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center for some much needed R&R.
In an interview with Extra, Lohan says that exhaustion is the
most likely reason for her physical breakdown, but not
necessarily the only culprit.
"We haven't really found out," she told the TV show
before running down a host of ailments: "I was really
overworked and really tired...had a kidney infection...stress...wasn't
eating right...wasn't getting enough sleep...I had an asthma
attack..had a cold...a form of mono. I was really sick. I was
really scared. I'm trying to take care of myself."
In any case, as she says in Jane, "I couldn't work. No one
could bother me."
One of the people who was unable to bother the auburn-tressed
thesp during her hospital stay was her father, Michael Lohan, who
has had a difficult relationship with his family of late and
reportedly couldn't get past the lobby to visit.
However, Papa Lohan still managed to irk his daughter when he
spoke about her illness in a magazine interview, saying, "I've
heard the rumors, and I won't condone drinking and drugs."
It was enough to make the Freaky Friday star freak out. She
lashed out at her father in an interview of her own earlier this
month, in which she told Access Hollywood she was sick of staying
mum about her pop.
"I have tried to keep quiet long enough," Lohan said.
"Unfortunately, my father has continued to move forward with
his actions as a cry for attention. He has started false
allegations regarding myself and the cause of my illness. I feel
this is hurtful, and it angers me to see that my own father would
stoop to such a level."
Perhaps her disappointment in her own parental figure inspired
Lohan to start thinking about starting a brood of her own. The
thesp tells Jane that she was already planning the next stage in
her life.
"I want to get married young," Lohan says. "I want
to be a young mom."
In the meantime, Lohan has plenty on her plate. Aside from the
upcoming Herbie, she has five additional films in the works,
including next year's Fashionistas, costarring pal, Paris Hilton.
On top of her big-screen gigs, Lohan's pop album Speak is due out
Dec. 7. Her first single, "Rumors," has been climbing
the charts since its release.
